FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much should I contribute?

We understand it’s hard to gage how much to contribute, so we’ve created a small guide to help you with your decision.

$8 or under - if you're struggling to pay rent and/or meet your basic needs (food, bills, health), this option is for you. This doesn't cover the cost of your meal but someone has covered the cost for you.

$16 - If you can meet your basic needs but have other expenses that cause intermittent financial stress (debt, illness, car expenses) this option is for you. Your meal is covered, and with your contribution, we can pay our chefs the fair wages that they deserve. All our overheads such as delivery/ vehicle costs, container costs, and administrative fees are also covered.

$16+- If you can afford takeout coffee, Uber Eats, or cocktails at a bar, this option is for you. All our expenses are covered and you are offering someone a place at the table by paying for their meal. Being the first PWYC food delivery program in Toronto, you are helping us reach those in need.

Where is the food cooked?

All our food is cooked at the St. Paul’s United Church kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with commercial grade equipment, including a high-temperature dishwasher, separate hand washing sink. The kitchen is sterilized by professional cleaners before and after use.

What are your delivery zones?

We currently offer delivery to Scarborough, East York, North York, Midtown, and downtown Toronto. We hope to expand our delivery zones in the near future.

What precautions are being taken for COVID?

Before entering the kitchen

  • Phone call with chef to screen for symptoms → if any symptoms are present, the chef will be asked to not come in and the meals for the week will be cancelled (Screening questions based on health.gov.on.ca)

  • Chefs will be given gloves and masks

Upon entering the kitchen

  • All food contact surfaces will be washed, rinsed, and disinfected

  • All non-food contact surfaces, including high touch areas such as door handles and equipment knobs will be cleaned and disinfected

  • Hands will be washed, masks and gloves will be worn

During cooking

  • Number of people in the kitchen will be limited to 4

  • Physical distancing will be maintained

  • We will frequently clean and disinfect all potentially contaminated surfaces.

  • We will wash hands often, avoid touching face with unwashed hands, and cough or sneeze into elbows.

After cooking

  • All food contact surfaces will be washed, rinsed, and disinfected

  • All non-food contact surfaces, including high touch areas such as door handles and equipment knobs will be cleaned and disinfected

  • Hands will be washed, masks and gloves will be thrown away

We will keep this updated according to the Toronto Public Health guidelines

Do you have alternative options for food intolerances and allergies?

Because we are a small operation, we don’t currently have the capacity to provide alternatives for those with food intolerances and/ or allergies.

When will my food be delivered?

Food is delivered on Wednesdays 4-6pm.

Who receives the free meals?

The pay it forward meal will go to someone who can't afford it - we allow people who self-identify as being in need to receive a free one. We don't do any means testing (ie. ask for proof) and trust that those seeking help need it!
